Launch Date: July 2010

Moored: Cape Town, South Africa

This Maverick, Catarina, was build under survey by a European surveyor, and she has always stayed close to

Cape Town where she was launched in July 2010.

She has had two owners since new, the first kept her in Cape Town and the second moored her in Langebaan, about 100 miles up the West Coast from Cape Town, South Africa.

The Maverick 400 is a real Blue water sailing cat, built for comfort, safety and reliability.  The boat has in excess of $80'000 extras and is outstandingly good condition after been looked after immaculately joined by the first owner and shipyard with the second owner continuing in the same spirit of well maintaining the yacht.

The Maverick offers enormous interior volumes, great cockpit and deck space and clever ergonomics throughout.  The saloon is spacious and it is as if it belongs in a 50ft cat, it has unobstructed views and lots of light.  The modern galley has cream corian countertops, cherry wood cupboards, teak and holly floors and cream marine fabric upholstery.

CATARINA is owned by an experienced yachtsman and multihull enthusiast. A three cabin owner version with two bathrooms, it was designed and specified for extended cruises with his family and thus has over 300 drawings and incorporates many original features and well-thought-out flow and treatment of all living spaces.

The Mavericks are built extra-strong to suit the harsh South African conditions using materials and equipment that are far superior to standards commonly found on production multihulls.  The hulls, deck and coach roof are entirely constructed of a GRP foam core sandwich. The saloon windows are glass, not plexiglass, and will not scratch or craze over time.  The stanchions, pull pits, push pits, bimini support and swimming ladder are all high-grade stainless steel.  The double spreader rig is by SPARCRAFT, stayed by a cap shroud and lower shroud on each side for additional reliability offshore.  The yacht is equipped with a suite of premium NORTH SAILS: tri-radial cut laminated fat head mainsail, tri-radial cut laminated genoa, spinnaker with dousing sock, genaker on a continuous furler and a storm sail.  A retractable bow-sprit is ingenuously fitted into the compression beam.  The sail-handling is simplified and the helm station is well protected.  The main halyard, main sheet, genoa sheets and all reef lines are led back to the cockpit. Electric Lewmar winches enables single handed sailing.

The hulls are extra wide (24'6") offering large cabins with queen-sized extra length, island beds in the aft cabins, plenty of storage and very good load-carrying capacity.  The coach roof extends well forward providing a generously proportioned galley and saloon. The salon opens onto a wide, protected cockpit with flowing access to very wide aft transoms. There are dingy davits with a cleverly designed hammock seat above.  An extra long and sturdy swimming/diving ladder is fitted on the port transom.

The hull and appendage design is the result of extensive development, the keel being positioned well back in the boat.  As a result the boat tacks quickly and steers easily, reducing the load on any autopilot.

CATARINA is fully equipped for extended cruising with numerous amenities.  These include very large fuel (210 gallons) and water capacities (260 gallons), water maker, solar panels, wind turbine, large service alternators with charge boosters, extra battery capacity, fridge and two drawer-freezers, shore-side air-conditioning/heating, a second sink with access to the cockpit, microwave, flat screen TV, stereo, SSB, AIS and a massive chart plotter.

CATARINA is powered by 40 HP Volvos. These upgraded engines push her swiftly at 8.5 knots at 2700 rpm. The factory built in a fuel transfer system to polish and transfer between tanks. The autopilot and radar are upgraded, top-shelf SIMRAD, and new B&G Chart Plotter fitted

The Hull is treated with Nomosis epoxy undercoat x3 coats as primer for 5x coats Coppercoat anti-fouling.

New Tender and 5hp Yamaha 2stroke outboard engine
